Re-Wickerwork is a research project on wickerwork.
Wickerwork is one of the oldest manufacturing techniques of humanity. Being easily made with the hands and without tools, there is a great variety of patterns made from a wide range of materials all over the world. The craft goes so far back in history that it is believed that mud hut roofs were made of wickerwork or even ceramic objects were inspired by woven forms. Today, the craft is still very present in furniture making, especially the material rattan, which is made of the bark of lianas.
The Wintergarden armchair is the applied result of the research. The core idea of the design is a weave pattern that creates different hardness zones due to overlaps in the pattern that are adapted to human sitting ergonomics.
